Providence Prospect Researcher in Missoula, Montana


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Prospect Researcher to our location in Portland, OR, or within the Providence footprint locations (WA, CA, AK, MT, NM, TX)

Through the work of the System Office team, our local, regional, and system foundations receive tools, services, and support that will empower them to raise funds to provide critically needed services in the communities we serve. These range from funds to support compassionate care to our most vulnerable citizens, advance lifesaving research, fund capital improvement, fund services that otherwise would not exist, and fund new and evolving technology and programs.

We are seeking a Prospect Researcher to join our growing team in the establishment of a Prospect Research and Management shared service at our System Office. In this position, you will strategically supports the fundraising efforts of the Foundation by identifying and qualifying prospects and providing strategic research support to our fundraisers. You will be responsible for proactive research which includes screening and reviewing patient and donor lists and participating in the development and maintenance of our constituent management database strategies for moving prospects forward in the donor pipeline. You will also develop and manage a comprehensive, proactive, and reactive research program helping to identify and qualify individual, corporation and foundation prospects in preparation for cultivation and solicitation by fundraising staff.


  • Help our foundations to identify prospective donors and manage prospects and donor relationships by overseeing the management of the prospect/donor research, preparing capacity/affinity reports, evaluating prospects, and ensuring prospects are moved through the pipeline from qualification to cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

  • Plan and organize regular meetings with Foundation executives and major gift officers to assign prospects, monitor timely movement through the pipeline, and develop and enhance strategy to convert prospects to donors.

  • Compile lists for screening, reviewing lists of prospects returned by screening service on a daily, monthly basis and on demand, and making recommendations of top-rated prospects to gift officers

  • Plan and implement an effective research strategy that considers the unique mission of Providence and the special needs of donors and potential donors

  • Manage the research request process including working with fundraising staff to establish and communicate deadlines

  • Create in-depth biographical and financial profiles on individuals and organizations using a variety of prospect research resources

  • Interpret and synthesize financial, technical, and trade materials, including stock holding information, real estate files, IRS and SEC information particularly as it relates to how it affects Foundation prospects

  • Track and communicate significant evens relating to top prospect stocks, companies, careers, and other major life events

  • Monitor top prospects and key volunteers via news alerts and push technology and share relevant updates with team members and colleagues

  • Evaluate research tools and emerging technologies and keep abreast of trends in the field of prospect research

  • Manage the collection of prospect lists from various sources and prepare for submission to the screening vendor

  • Contributes to the overall success of the Foundation by assuming primary responsibility for special projects as assigned and performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, journalism or public administration or equivalent.

  • 3 to 5 years of experience conducting prospect research within a fundraising environment utilizing various online search engines (i.e. Lexis-Nexis, ResearchPoint, etc.).

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Experience in a large healthcare or other highly matrixed organization

  • Experience with BBCRM
