The Discharge Technician Position is a Repetitive and High Demand Position that requires Speed, Agility and Precision Cleaning. It is also a key initiative in Reducing Hospital Acquired Infections, Patient Through-put and Patient Satisfaction. Specifically, the Discharge Technician will do only Discharge cleans throughout their shift which is absolute repetitive cleaning duties on a high demand basis. While all Housekeeping duties are fairly repetitive, most all other housekeeper positions do a variety of cleaning from inpatient and outpatient cleaning to public area cleaning. The Discharge Technician will not do any of those areas unless all discharges are taken care of at any given time and they are assigned separately by a supervisor.
The differences between a Regular Housekeeper assignment and A Discharge Technician:
Housekeepers do a variety of assignments including discharges as assigned and the Discharge Tech only focuses on Discharge cleaning.
o No other cleaning assignment requires a housekeeper to clean the Bed (the Physical environment the patient will occupy) on every room. This includes stripping old linens, wiping the bed down with a germicidal cleaner from top to bottom and then placing clean linens on the bed.
It is more repetitive by only focusing on discharge cleans, along with the demand of speed, agility and the ability to turn rooms over having properly cleaned the room.
o This will create Patient Through-put, meaning patients will not be waiting in Admissions, the Emergency Room, or Post Operations for a room to be ready which provides a room in the proper setting for patients to get the appropriate levels of care as quickly as possible.
o Also, this is a key area for prevention of HAI's (Hospital Acquired Infections). The cleaning and disinfecting of the room to protect the next patient from the prior patients germs.
