Providence Health & Services Vascular Sonographer in Missoula, Montana


Providence is calling a Vascular Sonographer (Cardiac Surgery and Recovery Services, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Medical Group in Missoula, Montana. In this position you will:

  • Organize plans and direct activities relating to patients and procedures for designated time and area.

  • Maintain steady workflow ensuring a complete, accurate and timely work product.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of principles of physics, scanning technique, and computer science skills related to ultrasound scanning according to approved department protocols.

  • Demonstrate complete working knowledge of all ultrasonography equipment and computer software necessary to perform studies.

  • Calibrate and perform quality control on imaging systems as required.

  • Verify patient identification using two patient identifiers by verbal communication, ID band, etc.

  • Verify referring physician order for accuracy and reason for exam.

  • Demonstrate correct and adequate positioning using ultrasound-imaging technique to obtain desired views.

  • Practice good universal protocol techniques. Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination to patient and instruments.

  • Provide protection to patient, staff and self, according to prescribed safety standards.

  • Perform image acquisition and processes exams in a timely manner for interpretation.

  • Willingly perform other related duties outside immediate work area as assigned or required ( i.e., transport).

  • Enter, edit and complete exam documentation timely and accurately.

  • Assure patient information and billing codes are marked correctly.

  • Record pertinent patient information completes all paperwork as required and assists in maintaining files. Review patient’s files and reports as needed per department policy. Is proficient in the use of copier, fax and printer.

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of hospital information system, computer-based systems.

  • Assist and provide orientation/training of new employees and students.

  • Enter, edit and complete exam documentation timely and accurately. Assure patient information and billing codes are marked correctly

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings. Report to supervisor any suggestions to increase productivity or quality of work.

  • Responsible for knowledge and compliance with budget and staffing standards. Work overtime only with prior approval of supervisor.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Current RVT registration with ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) in vascular technology.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card must be from the following authorized governing bodies: American Heart Association (AHA) - (BLS Provider), American Red Cross (ARC) - (BLS for Health Care Provider), or Military Training Network (MTN) – (Healthcare Provider) upon hire.

  • One year prior experience performing vascular technology studies.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Completion of a training program accredited by the American Medical Association - Committee on Allied Health Education (AMA-CAHEA) for vascular ultrasound.

  • Two years prior experience performing vascular technology studies.
