Providence Director, Labor Relations, Swedish in Montana
Providence St. Joseph is calling a Director, Labor Relations, Swedish to our location in Seattle, WA. This role is open to candidates in Alaska, Washington, Montana, Oregon, California and Texas. This role cannot be worked remotely, so relocation to the Seattle area will be provided for well qualified candidates.
We are seeking a Director, Labor Relations PSJH to lead labor relations at Swedish Medical Center and Swedish Edmonds ensuring effective contract administration, maintenance of healthy relationships with labor representatives, support of bargaining processes, labor risk mitigation, and partnered labor strategy development for the organization. Responsible for influencing and partnering with HR COE's, operations leadership teams, and field HR to promote the highest quality experience for core leaders and caregivers. The role is also responsible for creating and implementing consistent best practice approaches to positive caregiver and labor relations, consistent alignment with HR policies, establishing appropriate protocols and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This work is done in a manner that integrates and aligns system-wide human resources processes and operations with the caregiver experience objectives of providing a healthy work environment for all caregivers.
In this position you will:
In partnership with legal, operations, field human resources and caregiver relations, provide leadership and overall direction on all labor relations services in support of the organization’s strategic priorities, organizational goals, and objectives.
With legal counsel, partners with field human resources and caregiver relations to administer ongoing labor relations activities including complex, high risk grievances, support for requests for information, response to unfair labor practice charges, contract language interpretation, and contract implementation.
In partnership with legal counsel, field human resources, human resources COEs and operations leaders, design and implement negotiation strategies including, but not limited to, communications, government relations, stakeholder engagement and bargaining team management.
Advise on and prepares contract proposals for bargaining. Manage the bargaining process and contract implementation.
Use subject matter expertise to advise leaders, caregiver relations and field human resources on labor issues.
Lead development and implementation of labor related communications and training programs for core leaders including content and delivery approach for labor programs and processes.
Develop strategies and recommendations for enhanced caregiver and core leader experience.
May partner with other functions partners to develop long range plan budgets and expected outcomes.
Lead and develop a strong functional team through effective recruiting, training, coaching, team building, and succession planning.
Use measurements to predict needs and signal course correction. Prepare and present metrics that monitor and assess labor relations related activities and assures the strategies and tactics are on target to meet organizational needs.
Foster a culture of service excellence.
Integrate the Mission through each step of the labor relations process.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Organization Development, Industrial Relations or related field or 4 years additional experience in lieu of degree
8 years Leadership in a labor environment/contract administration
At least 8 years as an HR professional advising leaders on labor issues within a multi-location, multi-facility organization
Experience in building a labor relations culture where HR, leaders and unions enjoy a mutual understanding of the respective positions, daily employee and labor relations activities, and contract negotiations.
Experience in HR strategic planning and working through partnerships, customer centric environment enhanced by technology and centers of expertise to achieve aligned objectives
Experience working directly with (non-HR) senior leaders to achieve strategic initiatives with proven results in increasing retention while reducing turnover
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Master's Degree in Human Resource Management, Organization Development, Industrial Relations or related field
10 or more years leadership experience in a large, multi-location, multi-state, complex organization
4 years healthcare and acute care environment
