Providence is seeking a Principal Clinical Informatics Specialist :

"The Principle Clinical Informaticist - Clinical combines advanced clinical nursing skills with technical knowledge to create systems that can greatly improve the quality of patient outcomes. The Principle Clinical Informaticist Clinical delivers high-quality patient care through efficient management of data and Information Technology. The Principle Clinical Informaticist Clinical uses data to analyze trends, monitor for any consistent errors, and implement new, more efficient workflows, processes and policies. The Principle Clinical Informaticist - Clinical serves as an informatics subject matter expert to bridge between clinical staff and technical advancement, ensuring the tools and procedures will be user-friendly and practical for the caregiver.

The Principle Clinical Informaticist Clinical plans, coordinates and monitors the analysis, design, implementation, evaluation, optimization and maintenance of clinical technology and projects within their assigned ministry/area and in partnership with other caregivers and leaders at the organizational level.

The Principle Clinical Informaticist Clinical promotes the use of evidence-based clinical practice by leading clinical informatics technology councils, projects or other like activities. The Principle Clinical Informaticist Clinical is a leader in the selection, implementation and adoption of clinical technology to support clinical effectiveness and efficiency applying advanced education and experience to effectively address complex clinical-technical challenges in diverse healthcare delivery environments.

The Principle Clinical Informaticist Clinical is expected to demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience to successfully pass EHR vendor certifications.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates personal and leadership competencies in line with the core values that are the foundation of all activities performed by caregivers in order to achieve the Mission of the PSJH System.

  • Education/Coaching: Leads and mentors others. Successfully on boards new hires. Contributes insights for performance evaluations. Actively participates in optimizing processes and offers suggestions for new approaches to enhance clinicians’ experience. In collaboration Clinical Informatics leaders develops competency assessments of clinician use of information systems; designs targeted training and remediation as necessary and evaluates effectiveness of interventions.

  • Problem Solving: Demonstrates ability to manage difficult or unexpected situations in the workplace as well as complex business challenges. Applies Lean principles, including root cause analysis to problem solve. Is able to assess situations and offer effective solutions. Escalates critical issues, problems or delays in production, projects or any issues that has a negative impact on caregivers or clinicians. Leads local and participates in enterprise clinical content governance processes.

  • Customer Service: Successfully builds relationships with core leaders and caregivers and demonstrates the value of Informatics. Provides input and recommendations to clinical informatics leadership on operational strategies for informatics, including support, education and communications. Serves as a clinical translator, representing and communicating voices and perspectives of clinical disciplines to optimize the EHR and support clinical practice. Functions as the principal communication coordinator for project progress and information system changes.

  • Teamwork: Demonstrates ability to rapidly summarize complex information and present to others. Effective communication to team. Builds and strengthens the ministry teams by understanding and supporting priorities for Information Services and operational business plans. Partners with ministry leaders and acts as a liaison, problem solver, and facilitator for the impact that clinical information systems have on the delivery of patient care.

  • Clinical Support: Ability to facilitate high profile meetings with core leaders. Understands clinical workflows and anticipates needs of caregivers. Participates in the system design and build testing of approved changes to fully understand design intent and help ensure usability for assigned specialty areas and/or disciplines. Processes a global perspective and see impacts and results beyond the traditional organizational walls.

  • Professional Development: Demonstrates advanced knowledge of organizational systems, operational and clinical care processes, practice standards, and regulatory agency requirements. Sets challenging objectives and works against self-defined standards of excellence to continually improve personal performance. Builds professional skills by maintaining awareness of the health care environment, clinical information systems technology, evidence-based practice, leadership and informatics industry trends and standards. Demonstrates broad expertise in information services related to healthcare and clinical information systems.

  • Environmental and Working Conditions: Must be able to function in a dynamic environment subject to changes in schedules and priorities. Energetic and decisive; demonstrates ability to work independently and be accountable to deadlines in a fast paced environment. Demonstrate ability to influence upward, across and down with or without direct lines of authority; ability to take charge and lead within a matrix organization. Frequent travel among regional facilities (up to 50%) and occasional travel among PSJH entities (10%-40%) is required. Reliable mechanisms for travel throughout the region is required. May be subject to changing work hours to meet client needs.

  • Demonstrates excellent management skills by facilitating commitment and productivity, removing obstacles and motivating caregivers.

  • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations; live, via online or virtual mediums.

  • Ability to effectively build relationships with customers, executive management, and other stakeholders through positive interaction and problem. identification and resolution.

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the trends and changes taking place in health care.

  • Working knowledge of desktop software applications (e.g., MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Internet, Email).

  • The Principle Clinical Informaticist - Clinical with licensure in the "clinical licensure specialty" brings required comprehensive understanding of clinical process and practice standards, patient flow and operational processes.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a clinical discipline with clinical background in respiratory therapy, rehab therapy, imaging, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, or Clinical Social Worker.

  • Active license as a Clinician by the affiliated State Board where this position exists.

  • 8 years in a position that includes clinical experience and the same or similar primary duties working with a clinical information system within a healthcare setting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Informatics, Education, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a clinical discipline or healthcare field.

  • Informatics certifications or credentialing (may be equivalent for up to 2 years of experience for this position at the hiring manger’s discretion).
