Providence Senior Cloud Data Engineer in Montana

This position is fully remote and we are seeking candidates in the footprint of providence in the states of AK, WA, OR, CA, TX and MT.

This role provides data engineering expertise in a cloud based environment as a part of an agile software development and delivery team. This position focuses on using data engineering tools and theory as part of a holistic end to end approach to delivering highly available solutions to users. A senior data engineer leads exploration and adoption of new technologies, paradigms and architectures that help to continuously improve the capabilities of the team. This includes working closely with end users and other developers to design, build and deliver complete products and supporting infrastructure.

Essential Functions

  • Design, build and deploy production ready data transformation and processing solutions using a cloud first software development approach.

  • Support a culture of data engineering excellence within the product development team.

  • Deliver products that people love to use.

  • Serve as a leader in the development and implementation of quality engineering methods within the team (testability, reuse, consistency, etc.).

  • Serve as a resource and mentor for other team members in both technical and non-technical capacities.

  • Adopt an infrastructure as code mentality.

  • Eagerness to learn new technologies

  • Perform user research to understand and assess users needs in partnership with other developers and product designers.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in continual improvement processes as a member of a larger design and development team.

  • Work directly with end-users and product stakeholders.

  • Lead coordination efforts with external dependencies.

  • Work as part of a fully remote team.

  • Work directly with other developers and operations to create and maintain cloud based product infrastructure related to data engineering platforms.

  • Participate in peer feedback processes.

  • Develop an understanding of users and business processes.

Job-specific skills & Technical Proficiencies:

  • Extensive experience in data engineering using modern python based frameworks such as pandas, numpy, great expectations, pyarrow, s3fs, boto3, pytest

  • Experience implementing, and maintaining enterprise scale data lakes

  • Experience with Automation including Unit and Integration Testing

  • Experience with data warehouse technologies such as Redshift, MySQL, SQL Server, Athena, dbt, Aurora, and Snowflake.

  • Experience with administering and utilizing orchestration platforms such as Apache Airflow, and AWS Step Functions.

  • Experience with applying data engineering theory and best practices to solve business problems.

  • Experience with data security paradigms and their role in data engineering architectures.

  • Experience with Apache data formats for big data such as Avro, Parquet, Orc

  • Understanding of DevOps principles and how it applies to data engineering solutions.

  • Understanding of modern data engineering platforms and tools such as hadoop, Spark, AWS Glue

  • Understanding of foundational data science principles including data preparation, cleaning, and machine learning

  • Understanding of modern software development tools and platforms such as GitHub, Visual Studio Code, AWS, Docker etc.

  • Familiarity with data focused programming languages such as PySpark and R

  • Familiarity with linux or windows based development and production data engineering environments.

  • Familiarity with building infrastructure in AWS using CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, CDK or other similar toolset.

  • Familiarity with commercial or open source ETL tools.

  • Familiarity with modern collaboration tools such as Slack, Zoom, and VS Code Live Share

  • Ability to utilize incremental product design techniques

  • Ability to empathize with end users

  • Preferred experienced in SQL query writing, ideally across multiple databases and servers

  • Preferred familiarity with delivering data to modern visualization platforms like Tableau, PowerBI, or Amazon QuickSight

  • Preferred familiarity with processes running in MS SQL based systems

Required qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or Associate’s Degree plus 6 years of demonstrated experience in a data engineering role

  • Demonstrated experience in data engineering as noted above in correspondence with education level

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 4 years of demonstrated experience in data engineering or 8 years of demonstrated experience in data engineering

  • Preferred experienced in SQL query writing, ideally across multiple databases and servers

  • Preferred familiarity with delivering data to modern visualization platforms like Tableau, PowerBI, or Amazon QuickSight

  • Preferred familiarity with processes running in MS SQL based systems

Salary Range Depending on Experience and internal equity: Min: $45.41, Max: $74.54.
